The city of Jaipur, as a weekend escapade, has always been favored by wanderers around the city. And it practically has everything to drive you away from the monotony of the skyrises and an on-the-go living. The only skyrises here are the beautiful forts speaking of marvelous architecture dating back to as old as 16th century.

Jaipur is about three-hundred kilometers away from New Delhi and can be accessed easily by road, rail, or air.

The cheapest and most comfortable is via a train.

Though jam-packed during the weekends, the city can be pretty alluring if you know where to go.

Amer Fort

Amer is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Jaipur. The red sandstone marvel was built in the 16th century and is open to the general public.

The fort sees a huge tourist footfall during the weekends. All you have to do is find your spot and leave the rest to the breathtaking views.

Nahargarh Fort

Nahargarh Fort is an 18th-century architecture and a hill-fort overlooking the entire city of Jaipur.

The Fort as a whole is spread over a vast area but only parts of it are open to general public. Admittedly, it was not as filled with tourists as Amer; perhaps its location on the edge of a hilltop affected the tourist footfall.

Attractions like Hawa Mahal, Jal Mahal, and Jantar Mantar are packed up to the brim during the weekends. It thus becomes advisable to either get a guided tour or visit during the early hours of the day.

I tried booking a guided tour through the official Rajasthan Tourism’s official website but it got cancelled last minute citing insufficient bookings. Private tours can come to rescue during such times.

In a gist:-

  • Jaipur is perfect for weekend solo getaways.
  • There are quite a few trains that run from Delhi to Jaipur; you can pick your time and are good to go. Besides, it is very well-connected by road. You can easily find tourist buses on most major booking platforms.
  • The city, being a hot tourist hub, has several modes of transportation including taxis. Forts like Nahargarh are located on a hilltop which makes to and fro difficult and a bit costlier than other such places.
  • Each historical monument is accessible after paying an entry fee.
  • I stayed at Howstel, which can seem to be a bit far from the main city but was a good place to stay at.
